Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, GR Thanga Maaligai Jewellers, better known as GRT Jewellers (GRT), launched its first jewellery showroom in Singapore. This is the brand’s second international showroom – the first in Dubai. GRT has set its sights on international expansion and will be unveiling it’s third international showroom in our neighbour, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. An impressive household name in India, GRT would not be unfamiliar to the Indians here.

As part of its international launch, we were invited to a first peek at its showroom. Without a doubt, GRT deserves its reputation as a household name and here are 5 reasons why you have to visit them:

1. The largest jewellery showroom on Serangoon Road

Daytime view of the GRT Jewellers showroom along Serangoon Road in Singapore.

We believe that should say it all. At 4800 square feet, that is one showroom where you’re going to be spoilt for choice.  Housed in a conservation building right beside the Sri Veerakaliamman Temple, the GRT showroom is poised to become a landmark of its own.

2. Award winning  jewellery designs

GRT Jewellers has won awards on both a nation wide and global level.

Amongst numerous design awards which, let’s be honest, is expected of them, they also win over your hearts with excellent customer service, as demonstrated by their 2015 win at the Retail Jeweller India awards.

3. 50 years of excellence and counting…

Founded in a humble 100 sqft shop in 1964, the brand has grown to over 38 stores across India, Middle East and now Singapore. A brand steeped in heritage, GRT is a household name in South India and is a favourite family jeweller. The founder credits his brand’s longevity on three factors – purity of gold, variety of designs and most importantly, excellent customer service.

4. GRTLive Video Shopping

GRTLive is a shopping experience which is completely new to the jewellery retail scene in Singapore. It allows customers to view the collections at its largest store in India, based in Chennai. You are able to view a huge collection and tap into the expertise of the senior sales team. All of it in real-time!

5. GRT Jewellers – A brand with strong sense of corporate social responsibility

GRT is environmentally responsible powering its electricity consumption with its own renewable energy source. The brand has invested in solar energy production units in South India. This is to reduce their carbon footprint and to set an example for more organizations to follow.

Beyond environmental responsibility, GRT also gives back to society with generous donations like their recent 1 crore (INR 10 million) contribution to the Sankara Nethralaya, an eye care institution. The lasting legacy of GRT would be the GRT Group of Education Institutions. These institutions provide quality education in diverse fields like engineering and nursing. The philosophy behind this is to bring about change through an educated citizenry.

When you purchase from a responsible brand, you make a small contribution in support of their initiatives.

To make it even more enticing to visit the new showroom, GRT Jewellers has a number of attractive offers for their new opening. The store has a 3 month long raffle that runs till 30th September. The first prize winner stands to bring home a half a kilogram gold bridal set. There will be 5 winners of diamond necklaces and 100 winners for 8g gold coins. Every customer will receive 20% off on gold jewellery making charges and a flat 10% discount on all diamond jewellery.
