The Arya Samaj building houses the Malabar Gold and Diamonds store. Curious onlookers walk by the red carpet and the security personnel at the store. Slowly, a crowd builds up as Indian Film Star Surya’s fans gather to catch a glimpse of their hero.
Inside the building, the stage was being set for the launch and to receive Suriya.
Vinita Penna chats with event host, Bharathi Rani, while waiting for Suriya to arrive.
And the Star arrives! Suriya is received by the screams and cheers of his legion of supporters. The size of the crowd demonstrates Suriya’s immense popularity.
Suriya cuts the ribbon flanked by Malabar Group Chairman, M.P Ahammed and Co-Chairman, Dr P.A Ibrahim.
“Our latest expansion move will see Malabar Gold and Diamonds enter new markets in East Asia such as Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia. The expansion will propel our revenues and support our efforts to transform into a global conglomerate, ” shared M.P. Ahammed.
The staff who made the event possible are given tokens of appreciation. Interestingly, the Malabar Group’s policy is to refer to every staff member as a partner in the business.
Surya poses with the management team and board of directors of the Malabar Group. They have gone from one store twenty years ago to pushing towards becoming the top gold and diamond jewellery retailer. An impressive feat indeed!
It is Day One of business and customers are already thronging the store. Dedicated customer service is a hallmark of Malabar Gold and Diamonds. 10% of profits are donated to a good cause and the group has committed over SGD 17 million (Rs850 million) for charitable activities between 2012 – 2015.
A giant billboard of Suriya greets anyone passing by the store. Malabar Gold and Diamonds has added a new landmark to the Little India landscape. When you spot a Malabar Gold and Diamonds store in your next holiday to Malaysia or China, remember that the first store in this part of the world was launched in Singapore.
