Tekka Centre is an interesting building that houses a wet market, a food/hawker centre, grocery shops, restaurants, jewellery shops and a wide range of Indian clothing shops on its 3rd level. We like to say that it is the entire Little India experience concentrated into a single building!
The wet market is a dying breed in Singapore with supermarket chains making their presence increasingly felt. The wet market at Tekka Centre starts serving up fresh produce from 5.30am in the mornings. You can buy fresh seafood, meat products, vegetables and fruit here. This is a uniquely Singaporean experience not to be missed.
Tekka Centre houses a wide variety of hawker stalls. These stalls serve up all our favorite local dishes from ice kacang to biryani. The hawkers start serving up their dishes from 6.30am onwards to feed the wet market stall owners as well as the early morning grocery shoppers. Visit the hawker centre to enjoy local food and cheap prices.
The second level of Tekka Centre is home to a multitude of tailor shops, cheap Indian ethnic wear, watch shops and cheap clothes from China. It is a favorite among locals to get their ethnic wear cheaply.
Tekka Centre is home to two Indian restaurants. The recently revamped Kamala Restaurant is popular for its Indian fare. It serves up both vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes. It is popular with Malay/Muslim diners as the restaurant is Halal-certified.
The popular chain of vegetarian restaurants, Ananda Bhavan, has an outlet in Tekka Centre. This outlet is tucked away in a leafy corner of Tekka Centre. It is relatively quiet and a good place to go if you wish to avoid the crowds.
