Holi festival celebrations are synonymous with iconic Bollywood Holi songs. Bollywood has picturized the colors, the revelry and the spirit of Holi in its films over the years. From the black and white films of Dilip Kumar to the vivid colours of Holi in Ranbir Kapoor’s latest hit movie, every reigning Bollywood superstar has at least one Holi song to their name.

These Bollywood Holi songs are popular with the masses. In India, you will hear these songs at chai stands, autorickshaws and almost every street corner during the Holi season. The Indian Diaspora loves this songs and you will definitely be dancing to one of these Holi songs over the coming week.

This is our pick of the top 5 Holi songs from Hindi movies. Each of these songs are picturized on the most popular Bollywood actors of their time.

1. Balam Pichkari from Yeh Jawaani Hai Diwani

Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani is one of Ranbir Kapoor’s biggest hit movies and a top-grossing Bollywood movie of 2013. Alongside great performances and beautiful locations, the movie introduced a new Holi song for us to dance to. It has been a while since there was an addition to memorable Holi songs and Balam Pichkari from the movie gives us just that.


2. Dekho Aayi Holi from Mangal Pandey

Mangal Pandey: The Rising was Aamir Khan’s next film after Lagaan and carried a lot of expectations. It was his second period film and was expected to generate as much interest as his Oscar-nominated Lagaan. Mangal Pandey received a mixed response and is now largely forgotten. Thankfully, it did leave us with this evergreen Holi song – Dekho Aayi Holi.


3. Soni Soni from Mohabbatein

Shah Rukh Khan has two movies with the Holi festival picturized on him. The song Soni Soni from Mohabbatein is our pick for best Holi song from a Shah Rukh Khan film. Mohabbatein had a goose-bump inducing soundtrack. While this may not be the best song from the soundtrack, it is a foot tapping number that captures the fun of Holi.


4. Holi Ke Din from Sholay

Sholay is arguably the most loved Bollywood movie of all time. It is a constant feature in lists of top Bollywood movies. In fact, dialogues from Sholay are so popular that most Indians would be able to tell you a dialogue or two. Beyond the camaraderie between its two lead actors, the movie has gifted us this particular Holi song. This song is regularly included in Indian drama serials whenever there is sequence on Holi.


5. Rang Barse from Silsila

Silsila has possibly the most famous Bollywood Holi song of all time. Picturized on Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan, Rang Barse is a song that has remained evergreen and will definitely be heard in Holi celebrations for generations to come.
